I took lots of photos today but this one stood out. Not because it’s a good picture, but more because it’s sad. I’ve never thought of myself as a sentimental person, but there’s something quite sad about a pile of Christmas trees still rotting publicly in May.

This isn’t an official collection point, just a bit of public land near the River Kelvin that folk assume is dealt with by the council so they stick their tree there in January and forget about it. The smell is bizarre – it smells like Christmas gone off. Such a sad ending for something that brought so much joy.
